Learn about London, England, one of the top 3 tourist destinations in the world as well as the financial and political capital of the United Kingdom
Learn about London, United Kingdom’s
Capital City
Learn about one of the big three
tourist cities in the world, London
London is known as one of the great
three cities to visit in the world along with Paris and New York City. Since I
have relatives from my mom’s side, I have gone to London numerous times to meet
relatives and explore the city. We will be looking at the tourist attractions
of London like Wimbledon and 221B Baker Street as well as some of the shopping
and historic attractions. As shown from Goodreads,
Samuel Johnson said: “Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of
life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”
This quote in my opinion could not be more correct. There are
so many places to go explore and visit that it will be quite hard for one to
explore all the aspects that makes London a fabulous city.
Sherlock Holmes Museum
221B Baker
Street, one of the most famous streets in London, is where the famous fictional
detective hero Sherlock Holmes lived in.
The Sherlock Holmes Museum has two parts. The first part of
the museum is the gift shop where Sherlock Holmes fans can buy books and
souvenirs. This part of the museum was incredible. There are so many different
types of souvenirs like posters, stamps, cups, and books. I bought some stuff
from the Sherlock Holmes Museum. This includes a complete illustrated copy of
the Sherlock Holmes series and a large Holmes badge.

The other part of the Sherlock Holmes Museum is about the
fictitious house where he supposedly stayed and lived in during his life in
London. It was about 10 floors and was very narrow. In his fictitious house
they showed Sherlock Holmes best friend Dr. Watson and his main enemy and
nemesis being Professor Moriarty, who are both well-known characters in the
Sherlock Holmes books. It is a very popular attraction with tourists coming
from around the world to visit it, just like the Wimbledon Open.
Wimbledon Open
Wimbledon
is a suburb of London known for its famous tennis championships, which started
in 1877 and is also where the oldest tennis tournament in the world is located.
It is considered one of the big four Grand Slams in tennis
along with the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open. I visited the
shop and they sold a lot of Wimbledon gear like tennis balls and racquets to
souvenirs like Wimbledon caps and cups. The Wimbledon area is very quiet, as there
are not many people walking on the streets as it is a bit far away from central
London. This is unlike the next topic we are going to discuss, which is at the
heart of central London, Oxford Street.
Oxford Street
Visit
London talks about how great Oxford Street is, which offers 1.5 miles of
unrivalled shopping, with more than 90 flagship stores, which ranges from
fashion to beauty, to tech and homeware. It is a huge place to visit in the
centre of London with lots to do.
For example, I went to the café there and they served
classic English dessert like scones and a tasty hot chocolate. One can also buy
video games there, I bought a rugby league game in 2017 from a video game shop
called Rugby League Live 4, which has my local team the Toronto Wolfpack as a
playable team in the game.

There are iconic UK department stores like Selfridges and M&S,
which you can find at Oxford Street. It is a magical place in the centre of
London, which is located at Oxford Circus Station in the London underground.
What Other Places Should You Visit in
London?
In my
blog, I talked about all the fun things you can do in London, as there is no
such thing as a boring place here. There is something for everyone whether that
means seeing one of the oldest tennis courts in the world, being encaptivated
into the fictitious world of world-renowned character Sherlock Holmes or
visiting the well-renowned and well-known shopping centre of Oxford Street. These
are just a few of the many examples of what one can expect from London. There are
many other places such as the Buckingham Palace, where the Queen currently
resides in and Westminster Abbey, the place where the government of the UK is
situated.
